Faculty

We are proud of the program that we provide in the training of Emergency Medicine Specialists. We feel that the program has the perfect mix of didactics, quality supervision, and hands-on clinical education in the department. The focal component that brings all of this together is the Faculty. Our faculty is Board Eligible or Board Certified in Emergency Medicine, and are required to keep this certification current. The dedication and commitment of the faculty to education creates a unique high quality and personal environment in which to learn all aspects of the practice of Emergency Medicine.

Michael Jule, DO, FACEP (Director, Emergency Department)
Orginally from Chicago, IL, Dr. Jule attended the Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine. He graduated in 1978 and attended Flint Osteopathic Hospital where he completed a Traditional Internship. He is currently both the Director and Chairman of the Emergency Department and holds a clinical faculty appointment with Michigan State University. His area of special interest involves Quality Improvement.

Alan Janssen, DO, FACOEP, FACEP (Program Director)
After graudating from college in his hometown of Valparaiso, IN, Dr. Janssen attended KCOM graduating in 1989. He completed a traditional internship at Flint Osteopathic Hospital, after which he attended Pontiac Osteopathic Hospital for his Emergency Medicine Residency. After completion in 1993, he began practicing EM in Flint, MI and assumed the Assistant Program Director position for the Emergency Medicine Residency in 1994. He is currently the Chair of the Committee of Graduate Medical Education with the ACOEP, and a board member with the American Board of Osteopathic Emergency Medicine. He currently holds the position of the Lead Program Director for the Michigan State University, Statewide Campus System (SCS) Emergency Medicine PAC. University appointments include that of Assistant Clinical Professor, Department of Internal Medicine with MSU and the title of Adjunct Clinical Professor with KCOM. His area of special interest is in Tactical Emergency Medicine where he currently functions as a Reserve Officer with Oakland County Sheriff’s Office and as the Medical Director of the Special Response Team.

Frank Borschke, MD (Assistant Program Director)
Originally from Rochester Hills, MI. Dr. Borschke attended Wayne State University Medical School graduating in 1996. Dr. Borschke completed his residency in Emergency Medicine at William Beaumont Hospital in 1999. In 2002, he became the Assistant Director of the Residency Program and is integral in maintaining the success of the program. In addition, he holds the title of Assistant Clinical Professor with Michigan State University.

Stuart Etengoff, DO, FACEP
Originally from Buffalo, NY. Dr. Etengoff completed his medical school at NYCOM graudating in 1986. He completed a Traditional Internship and EM residency at Pontiac Osteopathic Hospital in 1987 and 1989 respectively. He is medical director of Michigan Urban Search and Rescue (www.MUSAR.org). Dr. Etengoff holds the title of Clinical Faculty with Michigan State University. He lectures nationally on topics of special interests to him, which include Domestic Preparedness, HAZMAT and Disaster Medicine.

Virginia LaBond, MD, FACEP
Dr. LaBond is a native of Detroit. She completed her internship and EM residency at Mt. Carmel Hospital in 1988 and 1990 respectively. She holds the title of Clinical Faculty with MSU. Her special interest is Child Abuse.

Hank Landsgaard, DO
Originally from Rosamond, CA, Dr. Landsgaard attended Harden Simmons University in Texas. He completed medical school training at the TCOM. He completed his EM residency at Sparrow Hospital in Lansing, MI in 1996. He holds the title of Clinical Professor in EM with MSU. He is certified in EM ultrasonography.

Alicia Morales, DO
Dr. Morales is originally from Collinsville, IL. She attended medical school at KCOM, followed by an Traditional Internship and EM residency at Genesys Regional which was completed in 1999. She is Clinical Faculty with MSU.

Javier Morales, DO, FACOEP
Dr. J. Morales is from San Juan, PR. He attended KCOM for medical school, after which he completed a Traditional Internship year at Flint Osteopathic Hospital. Dr. Morales graduated from an EM residency at Genesys Regional in 1998. In 1995, he was awarded “Intern of the Year”, and he also was a Chief Resident his senior year. He is active in the community and has special interest in Youth and Adolescent Medicine. Dr. Morales currently holds the title of Clinical Professor with MSU.

James Webley, MD, FACEP, FAAEM
Dr. Webley is from Orchard Lake, MI. He attended medical school at the University of Michigan and graduated in 1978. He is now a Clinical Professor with Michgan State University and a member of the Genesys Core Faculty.  The intradepartmental ultrasound rotations and residency ultrasound didactics are in his purview.  He has been voted the Emergency Medicine Faculty Award several times as well as the Specialist Educator of the Year Award  at Genesys Regional Medical Center.  He has 30 years of emergency  medicine clinical experience and is a frequent lecturer at regional and national conferences.

Curtis Yapchai, MD
Dr. Yapchai is a native of Michigan from Clinton Township. He attended medical school at the University of Michigan, graduating in 1996. He completed his training in EM at Henry Ford Hospital in 1999. He holds the title of Clinical Professor in EM with MSU.

Michael Yu, DO
Dr. Yu is from Chicago, IL. He attended medical school at UOMHS graduating in 1996. He attended St. John-Oakland for both his Traditional Internship and EM residency completing in 1996 and 2000 respectively. He currently holds title of Clinical Professor in EM with MSU.

Ryan Peters, DO
Dr. Peters is from Spring Lake, MI. He completed his undergraduate education in 1995 at Hope College in Holland, MI before completing his medical training at MSU-COM in 1999.  Both his internship and residency were completed at Genesys Regional Medical Center, where  he has remained on staff since 2003. Dr. Peters currently resides in Holly, MI with his wife and son.  He enjoys golf, tennis and spending time with his family.

Todd Britt, DO
Dr. Britt is from Lake Orion, MI. He graduated from Michigan State University in 1995, and continued his medical school training at the Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1999.  He completed a traditional rotating Internship at Genesys Regional Medical Center in 2000, and then continued on with his Emergency Medicine Residency.  Dr. Britt has been active as a core faculty member since 2003.  He has special interests in patient satisfaction.  He has also participated for the last three years as a lecturer for the MCEP/EMRA annual in-training review course. 

 

Chris Scipione, MD
Dr. Scipione is originally from Canton, MI.  He attended the University of Michigan for his undergraduate education in chemical engineering.  He completed his medical education at Finch University- the Chigago Medical School.  Residency training was completed at William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, MI in 2003 prior to being active in the armed forces.  He has been at Genesys Regional Medical Center since January 2007 and is currently a member of the Core Teaching Faculty for the Residency. 

Kevin Zettek, DO
Dr. Zettek is originally from Bolingbrook, IL.  He completed his undergraduate education at Benedictine University in Lisle, IL in 1999.  His Osteopathic education continued at Des Moines University in 
Des Moines, IA.  He completed his internship and residency at Genesys Regional Medical Center in 2007. 
Dr. Zettek has continued his emergency medicine practice at Genesys, and is a member of the Core Teaching Faculty.
