| The Emergency Medicine Residency Program began in
1993 and was approved for 12 positions. The first class had two residents,
and quickly expanded to fill all positions over the following years. We
recently attained ACGME accreditation as of July 2007. We
now are approved for 28 positions, and recruit seven residents
per year.
The program is highly competitive. In 2007 we received over 100 applications for seven residency positions. The residency is directed towards producing high quality Emergency Physicians who are skilled in the management of treating emergency patients, and are academicians in Emergency Medicine. All residents must complete and write up an independent research project, consistent with AOA/ACOEP and ACGME standards. Genesys Health Park is the primary training site for the four year Emergency Medicine Residency Program, which begins at the PGY-I level. Health Park is located in Grand Blanc, MI. The site includes 400 bed acute care hospital. In addition, two satellite Emergency Departments are part of the system. These sites together offer a diverse population of inner city, and suburban patients, while offering accredited training programs in virtually all of the major medical and surgical specialties. The Emergency Departments associated with the system care for approximately 100,000 patients annually. The facilities are state of the art, treating patients in departments composed of 58 emergency patient beds, a 12-bed Emergency Services Transition Unit, and the recently opened 11-bed Rapid Cardiac Diagnostic Center. In addition, the hospital has begun to utilize electronic medical record, and will be paperless in the near future. An electronic patient T-System and Medhost patient tracking system assist in patient management specifically in the Emergency Department. |
